PROJECT SCOPE OVERVIEW:

Quantum North America was contracted by Siemens Government Technologies, Inc. to provide a turnkey design build project. (ESPC) at the Joint Systems Manufacturing Center (JSMC), also known as the Lima Ohio Army Tank Plant. The JSMC facility is operated through the US Army Corps of Engineers.

The project involved installing five new Paint Booths, a New Paint mixing room, and a New Paint Storage Room.  Additionally, an existing Paint Booth was retrofitted and a new Small Parts Line complete with Cross draft Paint Booths, Flash Booths, Topcoat Cure Oven, New Conveyor Line and New Abrasive Blast Booth were installed. Quantum also provided all the associated appurtenances for the Paint Booths; including ventilation, filtration, fire protection, compressed air, lighting, foundations and structural work.

The paint booths are relatively a large scale to support the coating of military tanks, including the M1 Abrams and Bradley Fighting Vehicle.

This project involved using a multidisciplined team (mechanical, civil, electrical, fire protection, and life safety) and included multiple paint equipment and manufacturing experts.

Quantum North America utilized an experienced and fully dedicated team of Project Managers, Engineers and Skilled Craft personnel.

KEY PROJECT ATTRIBUTES:

The project required detailed coordination with multiple teams to install the paint booths and associated equipment. The demolition and construction phases required planning and consideration to minimize impact to ongoing plant production. Due to the size of equipment and working in an operational plant, numerous detailed Activity Hazard Analysis were performed and consideration of impact to operational equipment was carefully analyzed.

KEY TO PROJECT SUCCESS:

With a large, multidisciplined project it is crucial that accurate, timely, and detailed engineering, planning, scheduling, reporting, and overall team coordination is constantly performed and reassessed. Quantum prided itself on this project by bringing in industry experts, when needed, to ensure a proactive approach to our client’s needs. It was with great pride to work on this project that will ultimately serve our nation’s military.
